How quickly they forget
Our elementary school kicked off their “Pennies for Patients” campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Friday. During morning assembly, they had a little skit about cancer, and let Kendrie play the part of Captain Chemo. This is what she told me about it after school:
Kendrie: “I got to play Captain Chemo and fight the cancer, but the C fell off my sign, so I was just Captain Hemo. And Dylan played the white blood cells, and Katrina played the red blood cells, and Macy was the plankton.”
Me: “Plankton ….. you mean the platelets?”
Kendrie: “Yeah, whatever.”
This, from a girl who survived two and a half years chemotherapy herself.

Good for Kendrie! Some things are better forgotten…..helps keep childhood a little more carefree! (Besides, I know that mom & dad remember enough for the whole family……..)

What a blessing that Kendrie has been able to forget that time in her life. Just shows how resilient kids are!! And how blessed her parents are!

So glad that those memories (and words…) are just a blurry memory. I am sure you are not that lucky. Peace.

Thankfully, God wipes the slate clean after all of the pain these kids go through! I’m always amazed at how soon they forget, yet how compassionate they always are for kids in their same situation.

Kendrie is, by far, one of the coolest kids I’ve ever “known.” Her story, your family’s story, is truly amazing…. a book waiting to be written (hint, hint). What an inspiration you are to us all.

Kendrie stories always make me smile. So good to see her living such a normal life. Plankton, still laughing….
