I do love me some Dennis Quaid

03 June 2010 | Uncategorized

Brayden and I were sitting around yesterday afternoon (last night?  Who knows?  Summer vacation …. its all a blur ….) and as she was flipping channels on the tv we ran across Jaws 3.  For whatever reason (perhaps because we’ve seen every single solitary episode of iCarly and Suite Life and True Jackson and Drake and Josh and Victorious and every other show my kids like already …..) we watched the entire second half of the movie.  And considering it was made in 1983, before computer animatronics were really advanced, I have to say ….. it was totally, hysterically, cheesy.

Even Brayden was rolling her eyes  and laughing about how cheap the special effects were, and how fake the shark and the attacks looked, and the “half-eaten body parts” that were floating around in the water.  Pretty much the only thing that made it bearable to watch was the fact Dennis Quaid was in it ………… I do love me some Dennis Quaid.

But near the end of the movie, when the shark tries to attack the water skiing performers (who, by the way, does anyone know why on earth they wouldn’t wear life jackets when they water ski for a living?   I mean, one good fall, hitting your head on a ski, and its straight down to the bottom.   Some of them jumping ramps wore helmets, but no life jackets.  I guess its good to know when they pull your drowned body out of the lagoon that your head won’t be damaged …… but I digress …..)

Anyway, as the shark was speeding along behind the skiiers, and you just knew something bad was about to happen, Brayden commented out loud, “I bet one of those guys jumps over the shark instead of the ramp”

And I thought ………………. yep, I know just how you feel.  In fact, I think she pretty much hit the nail on the head.

This blog.

Jumping the shark.

At the very least, a break is needed.  Maybe a week or two.  Maybe three or four.  Maybe just until my kids do something cute and adorable and worth sharing.  Which as they are getting older, is happening less and less and less.

So until later, or until I have something to blog about, whichever comes first  ……………………. remember your life jacket in the meantime.

I know you think you have nothing to say. However, I enjoy reading your site just to know I’m not alone in this whole parenting thing. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

have some good ol’ fun…keep that life-jacket handy!! Enjoy your summer, you know, the kids grow up so darn fast then you become a menopausal old wrinkled woman, sitting at her computer stuffing her face with oreo’s and pepsi, going from blog, to blog, to blog trying to find some semblance of what life used to be….

I have read you for years. First Caringbridge, and I have no idea how I was sent there, and now here. I think you are sublime. And, I am happy that you are wise enough to know when to take time to breathe. Have a nice break, and I am sure your readers will be here when you come back. By the way, a skunk has moved in under our deck, so I will be in my study all summer, pretending to be very busy with pressing issues, but really catching up on scrapbooks that are not nearly up to date.

Blogging seems to take a back seat to summer often. I hope to see you back on here soon. You crack me up and I need a laugh now and then!

Am I really the first to comment on this?

I hope that the break serves you well.
An artistic break. Like any artist, you have to walk away from what you are working on every once in a while to get a better perspective to what you are working on.
Enjoy the time off! Although something tells me I am sure you will be working on something else!

You need to watch “Caveman”-the campy 80′s flick with Ringo Starr. A very young, nubile Dennis Quaid in a loincloth. Nuff said.
