I expect Sports Illustrated to call any day now …

02 March 2010 | Kellen Basketball,Photography

Because really, not just anyone can take photos as good as this:

Honestly, including someone’s HEAD in the photo is highly over rated.  Why should I settle, and be like everyone else?  I think cutting off the heads could be my own unique watermark.

And why worry yourself over something as silly as FOCUS?

Don’t you agree?  Focus is highly over rated ….

In fact, photos that are off-center, out of focus, and poorly lit?  Why, that’s practically ART.  Clearly, I SUFFER for my craft.

Who am I kidding?  I’m not taking the blame when Sports Illustrated wants nothing to do with me.  I’m blaming the REF.  Get out of my way, Stripe-y …. you’re interfering with a GENIUS at work.

I actually really like the last pic! I can’t explain why, but it’s great!

I have quite a few of those shots in my “gallery”. But wait….don’t you have the rockin’ sports lens? *ahem* Nevermind. Anyway.. do you shoot on manual? Continuous shoot? What’s happening in your photo life lately… and have you gotten Photoshop figured out yet? (I just got Elements 8 and can’t even figure out how to load actions. I am a waste of my own time).

Pam, for indoor sports photography, yes, I do shoot on manual. I just had my shutter speed set waaaaayyyy too low last night. I’ve actually gotten some pretty decent shots this year, but last night was a waste of my time because I just couldn’t get it right. My big-fat-rocking-sports lens is only good for outdoor shots, with plenty of light. Well, I say that …. I should try it sometime inside and just see what happens. Anyway, yep I do use Photoshop, but (clearly, ha!) didn’t with these. Typically just a crop, sharpen, and maybe a color boost. I’m too lazy, and its too time consuming, to do much more, especially when I’ve taken hundreds in an evening. Fun to play with, though! Kristie

Oh I like the last one too.
And I do see some focus on somebody I know in those shots. She isn’t playing, but she is in focus!

Seriously, I don’t think you *can* focus when the subject of the photos has such GIGANTIC feet! Your poor camera doesn’t know what the heck to focus on :)

It’s a running joke in our family that I never get my kids in the photos I try to take of them. I have marathon pictures of an empty street, empty tennis courts and BMX pictures with no subject. However, i do better with golf, since at least my kids are stationary. Your good pictures, however, are fabulous. Sadly, I have no good pictures.

I liked the last one, too. Not sure why, but it immediately gave me a feeling that felt like something… How’s that for definitive?
