Is Twitter the new Blogger?
OK, so this is more of a general-opinion question, because I’m curious to know what others think …..
In your opinion, are Twitter and Facebook replacing blogging?
The reason I ask is because I posted a blog entry here yesterday, commenting on Kendrie’s 4-yr off treatment mark, and so far, have gotten about ten comments. Which I appreciate very much. And please don’t think I post JUST for the comments …. I would probably keep blogging, even if not one single person read it.
But I posted a quickie Facebook update about the same thing, and so far, have gotten 100+ “likes” and comments combined. I understand not everyone who follows me on Facebook reads here …… and I certainly understand how much easier it is to simply hit a “like” button, as opposed to the hassle of signing in and leaving a comment on a blog …… but still, I must admit I was a little surprised.
It’s certainly easier it is to write a one or two-sentence update on Facebook, as opposed to composing an entire entry here, complete with pictures, links, etc. And if people seem to respond more there, with less effort on my part, what really is the advantage to having a blog, vs. just staying updated via one of the social networks?
Again, I’m not asking because I’m thinking of shutting down my blog, just that I wonder how many people prefer the convenient method of checking lots of brief status updates, for many of their friends, quickly …… vs. having to go to individual blogs on a daily basis to read updates? And probably only one in fifty people that I follow on Facebook go to the trouble to keep a personal blog going, so I *get* the advantage of staying updated there …. for most people, Facebook is their only outlet, and I’m thrilled for the chance to see what they’re up to, even in abbreviated version.
But, I can’t help but wonder if blogs are headed the path of extinction, if the same information can be shared in an easier way, with better feedback. Personally, I enjoy the two things in different ways. Facebook is quick and easy, but you don’t get the depth of information and sharing that I think is possible in a blog or journal. I relish the blogs I check on daily, and look forward to reading and seeing what people are doing. I like that they are willing to share thier lives with the rest of us, and I just don’t get that same connection at Facebook or Twitter.
But I’m curious what the rest of you think …… blogs, thriving, or soon to be a relic of the past?

Been following your site for years Kristie, and don’t often leave comments here. Yes, if I was a “friend” and saw your post on Facebook, most likely would have commented there. It IS easier and you also have a personal connection with those folks. BUT for those of us not “friends”, this is where we catch up with our favorite bloggers. The wealth of subject matter on the blog is so much more…the pictures…the length of the posts…the formatting of text, etc. No, I don’t think they’re replacing blogging at all. I can’t imagine you or Pioneer Woman leaving a post without your pictures….or your punctuation and formatting that let me know exactly how frustrated, happy, nervous, etc. you’re feeling. Love your blog! And a BIG CONGRATS TO KENDRIE!!!!! Quite the battle she fought and WON!! :)

FB works great for folks like myself who are not particularly gifted writers. However, folks like YOU–who have a definite gift–should continue to blog! Even though I see your FB updates, I still faithfully check your blog to see if you’ve written a new story that will amuse (or inspire) me!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 8:12 AM
Hi Kristie,
I have been following your blog since way back from Caringbridge days…I look forward to reading your blogs and although I am an avid Facebooker as well nothing beats a good blog!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 8:13 AM
Most of my friends and family use to have a blog, but no one updates them anymore, just quick one or two liners via facebook. It really is more convenient to do and read, but I definitely miss blogging. You don’t really have the outlet for your feelings, or the ability to add all the details that make the story you are portraying “better” but I too am guilty of picking facebook over blogging!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 8:17 AM
I think facebook is a little easier to comment and read what people have to say because it is so short. But, I don’t think it will replace blogs soon. Blogs make it easier to catch up if you get behind a few days. Just my 2 cents.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 8:19 AM
I’m laughing because there aren’t any comments here. Maybe THAT’S your answer. But, in my life, the first thing I read when I turn the computer on in the morning are the blogs that I bookmark. I would MUCH rather read somebody’s blog because it’s got more information in it and sometimes more enjoyable. I don’t Twitter so I have no opinion about that other than it sounds really silly to say ‘I just tweeted.’
The blogs that I read cover a broad spectrum of subjects but it’s your blog that I truly enjoy. You write about what’s going on in y our life and I think most people have a natural curiosity about other people and how they live. You can’t do that on facebook. Please don’t take this wrong, but there are days when your life makes MY life look almost boring. Keep on blogging.

I have been reading your blog for years- and this is my first comment. I am a fan of Facebook, but personally, I enjoy the blogs more. I start my day out reading my few favorites, of which yours is on top of the list! Keep up the good (and hilarious) work!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 8:49 AM
I dabble in a lil bit of everything. I link my blog on my facebook when I have a new post up. Just hit the link button on your FB status :o) I tweet & have the widget posted on my blog b/c most of my family don’t have FB yet so they keep up with me that way. I use Tweetdeck to update my Twitter/Facebook/Myspace at the same time, extremely useful :o)
December 16th, 2009 saat: 8:51 AM
I love blogs. Facebook is great for a quick message, but doesn’t replace blogs to catch-up on everyone and every thing.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 9:00 AM
Kristie, I too have been reading your blog for years, but I’m almost certain I’ve never commented. Here’s what I wonder–I’ve noticed the couple of times I’ve checked comments that there simply aren’t as many here as there were on your other site. I know it took me a couple weeks to get around to adding this new address into my bloglist, so I missed a few updates. If other people are as lazy as me, (*grin*) maybe they also haven’t updated their bloglist, or google reader, or whatever? I’m just guessing here–but as somebody who isn’t following you on FB, I hope you keep writing here and sharing copious amounts of photos.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 9:06 AM
I love my blog. Like you, I orginally used it to keep friends and family updated on what I was doing (which wasn’t very interesting…but man I can write about NOTHING!) Anyway, a few “strangers” found their way to my blog and through comments/email exchanges they became “friends.” When I joined facebook, I friended several of my blogging buddies. I admit, it is easier to update and check facebook – especially if you’re looking for “real time” info. But I will NEVER EVER give up my blog. Because I simply love to tell a story – and you can’t do it in 140 characters….I’m like Susan, I have about 10 blogs I read every day (yours is one – I started reading you back in the Caringbridge days). I prefer blogs any day…although the convenience of Facebook is nice. I’m like you – I use them for different reasons. And I know you’re not looking at giving up your blog…but remember many of us who read it aren’t your friends on facebook, so we wouldn’t be able to get the updates!
Congrats on Kendrie reaching the 4 year milemarker. I remember sitting in my office and reading your post when she took her last chemo pills. I can’t believe it’s been 4 years!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 9:08 AM
I, personally, don’t spend time on Facebook. I think this is much more personal and I love your blogs. I follow several other blogs and look forward to reading them. I don’t do anything that anybody else wants to know about..i.e. I am boring, so I don’t have or want a facebook page. LOL
December 16th, 2009 saat: 9:17 AM
I have been pondering the same question. I don’t do either Facebook or Twitter at this point, but many former bloggers seldom update now and use Facebook instead. I love my blogs (and I’ve read you for at least three years, seldom comment) and really miss the blogs. I don’t have a huge amount of readers, and don’t get that many comments, but they are way, way, down. Hopefully my readership will go up again when we get on the road! Or maybe I’ll have to join FB.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 9:29 AM
I think that it goes both ways. When I get on the computer each morning, I check Facebook first and then I read your blog. I am not on your Facebook, granted. Facebook is a quick, easy way to disseminate information and I do enjoy reading the brief updates every morning, but it is nowhere as personal and enjoyable as reading a blog.
Since your Caringbridge days, I have checked on your family every day. That sounds totally creepy, doesn’t it? It used to be to check on your sweet girl and see how she was doing. Now, I love your writing and your humor, and I have a vested interest in your family. :)
I am now expecting the stalking police to show up at my door, so I should just say that I can appreciate both forms, but far more enjoy reading your blog, and blogs in general, than a blurb on Facebook.
Oh crap, I hear knocking at the door!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 9:31 AM
I personally prefer blogs. My biggest complaint about FB? Too little information. I had one person who posted her weeks old was prepping for surgery. That was it. Everyone was “begging” her for more information that she never gave. It was frustrating – and I realized that when you share (or other bloggers I read) there is a “story”. Beginning, middle & end. Now I like a good cliffhanger, but generally speaking I get the whole story eventually….not just a few words and then nothing. I’m also a sucker for pictures. Lots of them.
Generally I see FB as the billboards of life and blogging as the newspaper. Give me 10 minutes and I’d rather read a newspaper than stare at the same billboard.
WooHoo on 4 years!

Facebook/Twitter- Readers Digest version … maybe?
I think if people are using their blogs entirely for social comings and goings then they will die out and just use twitter or facebook.
On that same note- if people are looking for feedback- a blog may not be the place to get it.
But if you are writing just for writings sake, or for your own enjoyment, or for documenting your life, or because you have something longer than a few lines you want to say- then blogging will still be around.
Who doesn’t love comments, and an audience? But I don’t think that is why you blog.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 9:42 AM
Facebook will never replace the intimate feeling of connecting with others through their blogs (in my humble opinion). LOVE your blog, Kristie!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 9:44 AM
I love getting my morning coffee and reading your blog everyday. It makes me smile, it makes me think, it makes me cry sometimes. I do not use Facebook or Twitter because it is so impersonal. I know reading a total stranger’s blog is impersonal to some but this is more like reading a letter. No one writes letters anymore. In our fast paced world, everyone wants instant coffee, instant messaging, instant meals in a microwave. We need to slow down and really value life and a good conversation. I know it sounds strange, but reading this blog is like having a conversation with you about your family and life in a small town over coffee every morning. It is like reading a great book and no one-liner on Facebook will ever replace that for me. I sincerely hope you continue to blog. You have given so many people so many clarifying moments since th CaringBridge days. If you ever decide to publish this in a book form, I’ll be the first one in line!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 9:46 AM
Ok, I’m one of the guilty ones who commented on FB instead of your blog! I happened to see FB first and it’s easier to comment. I like the quick updates of FB, but would much rather read blogs and yours is the first one I check every day! My daughter even commented (just last night) that she loves the way you write. It’s so fun and after following you since the CB days, we feel like we know your family. I will be so sad when you decide you’ve blogged all you can. Keep up the wonderful writing, I often laugh out loud while I’m reading it at work. Good thing there are usually only middle schoolers in my office and not adults!

I really like blogs. I am not a big facebook fan and dont really go there. I LOVE your blog and look forward to reading the latest happenings in the Escoe household. I apologize for not commenting more frequently, even though I do read practically every day. And huge congrats on Kendrie’s 4 year ‘anniversary’!! What a milestone! :) So how is Blaine doing these days?
December 16th, 2009 saat: 10:07 AM
I read your blog daily but seldom respond. I’m not a facebook perwson as I don’t need friends of frends friend snooping,
December 16th, 2009 saat: 10:13 AM
You have hit on a topic discussed in the internet marketing world frequently lately. “should I post content on my blog if I am also posting on facebook and twitter”. The answer was a definitive yes. ( have a consulting business helping people launch products online.) In your case the situation seems more blurred as your blog isn’t commercial. I.e. your readership has a different demographic than someone with commercial intent.
I read blogs through an rss reader. I skim and if the topic and/ or first couple of lines are interesting I read the blog entry. If I weren’t using the reader and had to manually click through to your blog, I might not do it everyday. So I wouldn’t have commented yesterday. But I go to FB everyday.
If we were friends on facebook (and for me, FB is only friends and family) and you commented on your daughter’s treatment I would have a different response than a “stranger” reading about it on your blog. I would be much more likely to comment ON THAT TOPIC on FB.
If you want to have everyone reading the blog, then on FB you post an excerpt with the link to the blog.
OTOH when you post about spilling slushies in your lap, those of us strangers are more likely to laugh and share our own stories. sorry to go on for so long.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 10:21 AM
I have been following your blog (almost daily) for a few years, but rarely leave a comment. We’re still out here! While I like facebook, I agree with the others that it’s meant for brief updates. Your blog is like reading installments of a very good book! And I don’t know that I’ll ever be a twitter-er…it seems like Seinfeld most of the time…a show about nothing.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 10:25 AM
I don’t have a blog or facebook. I just can’t bring myself to facebook because I know it would be time consuming. I too started reading through caringbridge and followed you here. You have introduced me to many blogs that I enjoy like Pioneer woman, Dad gone mad, Finn’s mom just to mention a few. You are funny and I enjoy your pictures. Congrats to Kendrie! Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 10:41 AM
Hi Kristie,
I’m a blog reader. I’ve been following you since caringbridge. I don’t do facebook or twitter. I love your blog and pictures. Can’t wait to see the pictures of the remodel. (Hint Hint) Hope Kendrie’s appt. went fine. I very rarely ever comment.

4 years is a HUGE accomplishment!! A ray of sunshine in your day, no doubt!Hope all follow up tests were good too!
Merry Christmas.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 10:47 AM
I don’t use Twitter, I tried it once but didn’t like it. As for FB, it’s fun because it’s quick and easy, but I favor blogs a lot more, they’re much deeper and fun to read, plus I enjoy the pictures. I spend more time reading blogs than being on Facebook… but I gotta say I don’t comment very often.
Congrats to Kendrie for being 4yr OT! That is amazing!!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 10:49 AM
Keep blogging! I love reading your stories and I was celebrating yesterday about Kendrie’s anniversary. Also, facebook freaks me out. It continues to recommend you as someone I should friend. HOW DOES FACEBOOK KNOW I READ YOUR BLOG!?!? Ahhhhh….
December 16th, 2009 saat: 10:54 AM
I agree with cakeburnette … facebook is ok for me to check updates but YOU do have the gift to write. I need you and the other few blogs to read with my coffee every morning!!
I have been reading your blog/caring bridge for over 4 years now!!
Congratulations to Kendrie! Prayers for Blaine and your family.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 11:00 AM
I read your blog all the time and love it. I always feel weird commenting because we don’t know each other in real life and I’m never sure what to say. But I am a huge fan and love the way you embrace life despite the hurdles. At the same time, you’re just so darn human and I laugh all the time at the everyday hassles you have to deal with. As a stressed, overextended mom of three kids myself, I need all the laughs I can get. As for Facebook, I’m kind of getting tired of it. Sometimes I like to read a whole story about someone’s life – like your blog – rather than a bunch of random, often trivial details, about people I barely know anymore. I think maybe I just need to limit my friend list so those that I really am friends with.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 11:10 AM
The blogs I read are those of people I don’t know personally so those people aren’t my “friends” on fb. I only follow a few blogs – about 6 and I’m more of a lurker than someone who comments daily. I enjoy the detail of the blogs I read. I use fb to keep in touch with those I know.
PS – way to be Kendrie!!!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 11:25 AM
I think Sharon C. summed how I feel very well. I love blogs and read quite a few but I rarely comment on them. Probably because I feel like just a face in the crowd – you don’t know me from Adam so why would you care what I think? As much as I like FB I can’t see it ever replacing blogging or at least, I hope it doesn’t. I like blogs way too much to ever want them to disappear…I like knowing the back story, the emotion, etc. that you just can’t get over at FB or Twitter.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 11:49 AM
I love you blog and have been following you since your early caringbridge days. I do love facebook for quick updates but I still check my favorite blogs everyday (even ones I also follow on fb) because blogs are so much more in depth. Fb is just easier to comment on! Didn’t check yesterday but congrats to Kendrie (and your family) for such a huge milestone! Hope her visit goes GREAT!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 11:51 AM
I read check your page daily
and probably never leave a message
I don’t get on face book as often. I love your humor, pictures
and hope you don’t quit blogging. I remember Kendrie throwing the pills away. I have followed from GA to Okalhoma and hope you don’t stop. I am so happy she is 4 yeas since chemo. I can’t believe it has gone by that fast. Yea Kendrie now we need Blaine to do the same..
Hugs from Iowa,
Marjie
December 16th, 2009 saat: 11:54 AM
I don’t twitter and although I do have a FB, I am not all that FB savvy.
I come here and read but don’t comment that often, but maybe I should!!! I enjoy reading blogs and you always make me laugh.
Congrats on the 4 years. Jeffrey is 3 years off treatment now and we just had our checkup. It always makes me nervous. I don’t think that will ever go away. It’s a mom thing. LOL
December 16th, 2009 saat: 12:09 PM
I have also been a long time blog reader. I like to read the blogging as it too is one of my first things to do in the morning. I do have a FB, but I don’t get on there as often and I tend to miss things if I am not on there each day… Twitter doesn’t even apply to me…Sides, I have my favorites that I want to follow and help to get my day kicked off in a good way!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 12:10 PM
Oh – hit that submit button before congratulating Kendrie!! What an awesome feat — Miracles here to be seen!!!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 12:45 PM
I would much prefer to read blogs than updates on Facebook or Twitter! I have a Blackberry, and use Google Reader on my phone. I enjoy reading through your blog during my lunch hour, as I eat my lunch. You are a great writer, and readers really don’t get to see that as much through short, little updates. Your blog is so entertaining and always a pleasure to read!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 12:52 PM
I have to say I am with you on this one Kristie- I enjoy my facebook time (and I do spend a good deal of time on there when I get the chance) but I enjoy blogs in a different way. I look forward to checking the few blogs I follow each day to see what is new in the lives of the writers. You don’t get the stories on facebook that you do here on the blogs. So although I may comment on facebook more often, I really do enjoy the blogs and hope they don’t go extinct anytime soon :)
December 16th, 2009 saat: 1:40 PM
I’ve been reading your blog and lurking around for a couple of years now, since the CB days. You are one of my favorite bloggers, because I can relate so well with a lot of what you write about.
I’m not on Facebook, because I’m technologically uneducated. I tried it briefly, but messed up something with the security feature, had a strange weirdo contact me, and shut down my page in a panic. (That was probably over-reacting; I should have had my 12 year old help me figure out what to do to fix it.)
Congratulations to Kendrie for being 4 years OT! My daughter is now 2 years OT, and you were one of the inspirations that let me know that we could and would make it through.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 1:54 PM
I have a FB account, and I frequently waste time on it! But, I like the blogs because they tell stories. Plus, if it’s a family blog designed to serve as a scrapbook, FB is never going to cut it! If big things are going on in people’s lives, I want more info. So, I think blogs serve a different purpose than FB. Plus, my husband just had his account hacked into and messages sent out saying he had been mugged in London and needed money. As far as I know, that doesn’t happen on blogs. Glad to hear you’re going to keep blogging, and congrats to Kendrie!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 2:00 PM
I like the blog posts…especially since you haven’t friended me on facebook:) No really, I love pictures, full sentences and words and phrases written out in their entirety.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 2:07 PM
I don’t comment often, but do read daily. I have been a follower since caringbridge and I feel like you are a good friend even though we have never met. Please keep on bloggin”!!!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 2:18 PM
I love reading blogs, but I have to remember to click type in the url to my autofill or go to my bookmarks, and click on the bookmarks to read them. I like fb because I can see what’s going on with my friends, all on a single page. I can choose if I want to visit their fb page to get more details, or look at their photos or whatever. I don’t have a blog, don’t have the time to keep it going and updated, and fb is just easier to iut up my little notes for my friends.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 2:24 PM
Sharon C – summed my thoughts up perfectly so I will refrain from typing the same thing.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 2:27 PM
I love your blog and have been following your family for years. Please do not stop blogging I would miss y’all. I am facebook as well but blogging is much more personal. I check my favorite blogs daily and I always love to read new posts. Merry Christmas!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 3:21 PM
I use facebook for friends and family; the blogs I read are all people I have “met” on the internet. I don’t think I follow anyone’s blog that is my friend on facebook. I check the blogs I follow several times a day. I also check facebook several times a day, but to be honest, there are so many postings about games people are playing, that I rarely see all the true status posts – I just don’t have the time (or patience) to scroll through the millions of Mafia Wars, Farmville, Bejeweled Blitz, etc updates to get to the “real” updates. I rarely comment on the blogs I follow because I feel like if I did, I couldn’t follow as many as I do – too time consuming.
BTW, I have commented in the past, but maybe only once or twice. I’ve been following your site for many years.
Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS KENDRIE!!! :-)
December 16th, 2009 saat: 3:41 PM
I’m a reader but not a commenter! Love the blog and try to check in every day. However, I probably would not ‘friend’ you on FB as I don’t actually know you and I haven’t sucumbed Twitter yet. When I found your blog last year I read all of your old posts and so probably should have commented at some stage – pardon my rudeness! congratulations to Kendrie on the milestone and all the best to Blain. I will comment more, I will – you keep blogging – deal?!
Breeda, Dublin – Ireland.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 5:26 PM
Hello, I sometimes comment here…sometimes on facebook. I think fb is easier, but I am a non blogging person just a reader. Heck I only follow 2 faithfully..yours and PW’s.
Hope things went well today, we go tomorrow.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 5:28 PM
I’m not sure if someone already said this or not, but I can get facebook and twitter updates on my phone and can reply to comments/tweets directly from there. It is not as easy to comment on a blog from my phone and I don’t sign up for notifications when someone updates their blog.
Congrats to Kendrie!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 5:40 PM
I read your blog and thebigmamablog.com first thing every morning.. (if you don’t read Big Mama, I think you’d like her!). I also have a FB and it has been a wonderful way to re-connect with old friends, but I never know whether to request someone I don’t know in ‘real life’ but feel like I know because I have been reading their blog for years. Sorry, long sentence, but I wasn’t sure how to put that.. I happened to comment here yesterday, but I probably don’t comment as often as I should. Since we aren’t ‘friends’ on FB I wouldn’t have known about that wonderful milestone for Kendrie without this blog!!!!
I think your question was.. are blogs on the way out? My answer would be, God I hope not. I love to read blogs by people who know how to write, who can make me laugh and make me cry, make me feel like I actually know them even though we’ve never really met. It’s like reading a good book with a new chapter every day. I might have stolen that from a comment above, but I like it!! I don’t know anything about tweeting, so I can’t comment on that. I know that if you stopped writing this blog I would really miss it..
If you want to be my friend on FB, request me!! My last name is after my first intial in my email address!! Your FB might be for real life friends, so I won’t be insulted if you don’t :) ..
December 16th, 2009 saat: 6:47 PM
I’m like a lot of the others above…I love reading blogs, but I’m not talented enough to write paragraphs! I love facebook, reconnecting with old friends, making new friends, and only a line or two is great to keep in touch. Plus I check it more often than I should every day, and only check blogs 2-3 times a week. It’s easy to comment on FB too, either a “like” or a one line comment will do. (oops, sorry, I just wrote a paragraph!!)
December 16th, 2009 saat: 7:05 PM
Hey! I’m an old Caringbridge follower. I love blogs. I have yours bookmarked and then follow several on your sidebar. If you ever take them off I’ll be lost. I’m 50 and my kids are of the age (college +) of facebook. They told me for years that I was too old to be on facebook, but I finally set myself up last month. Don’t really like it, so I hope blogs stay around!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 7:16 PM
I have been reading your blog since the CaringBridge days. I don’t think I have ever left a comment. I would hate to see you stop writing on your blog. I feel like I know your family. Congratulations to Kendrie!
December 16th, 2009 saat: 7:29 PM
I just happen to see your status on FB and had to respond to it. Then I came over and read the blog and commented. I vote for keeping with the blog. I use FB to give a quick update on my mom.
December 16th, 2009 saat: 7:31 PM
Kristie – Don’t stop blogging! I consider facebook as looking in people’s windows. With your blog, I feel like you invite me into the house to sit on the sofa and watch your life as you live it. If that makes me seem like a stalker, well sorry. I have followed since Kendrie’s treatments way back when. It can be fun to sit and read, but I don’t usually have time to comment. I read alot from my i-phone too. It is easier to read than comment. I don’t use the like button on fb either. I either comment or don’t. Don’t lock me out of your life! – tee hee

I have also followed you and your family since your CaringBridge days.
I hope blogs are not going away…I can’t imagine my day without my dose of notquitewhatIhadplanned and the Pioneer Woman! There would be no reason to get out of bed…

Just saw your blog post. That is awesome! I don’t get to check blogs as often as I did; however, I enjoy them more than FB even though I admit that FB is a fast and easy way to connect. I don’t always get people’s FB updates (maybe I changed a setting or it got changed by FB???). I’ll check.
In any event, being an anniversary person myself, it completely thrills my heart for you to celebrate this wonderful anniversary. What a blessing.

I check FB in the morning, when I have just a few minutes. I am a big fan of the “like” button. I still like to read a few blogs (including yours) but have noticed that I have reduced the number of blogs I read. I now read 4 political blogs and 5 non-political blogs, down from a high of over 20 blogs last year. I enjoy reading blogs in the evening, when I have time to leisurely read and digest the contents. As far as comments, they are sometimes a really fun read. I’m rambling, which is why I don’t blog, but would like to wish you a Merry Christmas!

I refuse twitter. I won’t do it. I have been following/stalking you since the days of caringbridge. I much prefer to read blogs than follow facebook, but I do get the speed of facebook.
I love your blog and would be sad if you stopped. I have looked you up on facebook, but was a little shy about friend requesting since we have not met in person, just seem to have similar lives. Military, ill child, chemo, all that jazz.
I’m thrilled that Kendrie is 4 years OT!!! I actually just didn’t check in yesterday. And I don’t comment all that often anyway. May her life forever be ‘normal’ now!!!

I will admit I first read yesterday about Kendrie on facebook then came to the website to leave a comment. I also knew you would have written more on your blog then facebook. I end my nights going to blogs I have bookmarked. Facebook is a nice way to communicate for some, but I agree, I love reading your blogs.

I like both…for different reasons. To keep in touch with people near and far, facebook is good for the reason that it is brief and simple. I do like reading blogs for entertainment…while facebook is informative and has some entertaining moments, blogs give me much more in that area. I don’t really think blogs will go the way of the dinosaurs because they are more than just a simple update – people use them for many different purposes and outlets.
Hoping the appointment went well and all is good.

I love the blog. FB is good for short quick updates…but blogs make for much better reading!! Plus you’re not on my FB list, so I would miss all the good stories and photos!!

Wow, Kristie, ask and you shall receive! Thought I may as well chime in, too. When I first started blogging three years ago, it was just for me; I wasn’t even aware of stuff like followers and comment numbers. Then, somewhere along the line I got some blog friends, not a lot like some people, but people who followed and read what I wrote every day, and commented most days. I liked it, but there were times when I felt like I couldn’t really write what I wanted because I had an “audience”…even if it was made up of people I liked. So, I also started a private blog that is strictly an online journal for me to write things I don’t want to share with anybody. Writing has always been a big part of my thought process when I’m trying to think about and/or work things out for myself. That being said…
One of my Caringbridge friends got me into Facebook a year or so ago. For the longest time, my account just sort of sat there, but then I started using it and now it is sort of what my blog used to be, but with more people…even some I haven’t talked to since high school! It’s just so different from a blog; it’s right now, and it’s quick, easy and fun. I never have gotten into Twitter but who knows…maybe that’ll be next! :)
My blog has gone back to being what I first intended it for, and I do not now or ever plan on closing it down. I hope you don’t either!

I love your blogs!!!! You are my coffee break sanity-stop. I do occasionally look at FB and actually have a FB account but it’s just not the same as your wonderful blog. Love and prayers to you all this Christmas.

I think that the blogs will be sticking around for years to come, but for some people it’s just easier to log into FB or Twitter and leave a quick comment than it is to read an entire post and then comment as well. Quicker right?
Personally, I loooove reading all the blogs.

I love your blog!!!!! I’m not a big fan of facebook. :) But now I want to be your facebook friend so I can read your stuff there too!

I read both your blog and facebook comments!!

I like facebook but I LOVE your blog!!!

Have never Twittered, will never Twitter and wouldn’t know how if my life depended on it. Blogging is my choice of communication. I have a FB account but I pour my heart and soul into my blog and I will keep on blogging.

A friend sent me this link because she knows I struggle with the same – the spreading out in social networks, frustration associated – and not that I am going to stop blogging – but the resulting confusion. I look at it as relationship building no matter where it happens. ;)
P.S. my friend, who I trust, really likes your blog!

Dear Kristie,
Thanks much for your commitment to blogging. It is really precious to keep in touch with your family this way, to celebrate Kendrie’s continued good health and to keep rooting for Blaine’s health as well as smiling at the epics of daily life.
Facebook can never replace this. See, for exemple, I am not on Facebook… How could I follow you in this way?
Also I enjoy a good read and writing style matters to me. Yoru author’s talents, I believe, can shine more brightly on a blog.
Thanks for all you share.
Love and gratitude to your whole family,
Eva, Brussels, Belgium

I am not a Twitterer by ANY stretch of the imagination. However I am a self-admitted Facebook junkie. I use FB to keep up on my friends and acquaintances but there’s one point – for me, FB is only for friends and acquaintances and just as I wouldn’t want strangers as friends, I feel I shouldn’t be friends with strangers, either. So it’s not as if I would ever ask to be your FB friends unless we actually, oh I dunno, knew each other or had something in common other than me reading your blog, LOL!
I enjoy FB for what it is – quick updates. I also enjoy blogs for what they are – short stories, if you will. I think both do and will have a place in cybersociety.

Wow! Look at all these comments! You really pulled us out of the woodwork. I like both facebook and blogging for different reasons, but my favorite is blogging. I bet the people who like facebook more are not even reading this post in order to vote their way.
December 19th, 2009 saat: 12:30 PM
I use both a blog and Facebook. I’m not really sure that anyone ever sees my blog – it’s more for me and for my daughter someday, not that I don’t want readers, I just don’t seem to have them!
I Facebook mostly with my family and friends from growing up. I agree that I don’t “friend” people I don’t know personally, and even then sometimes I ignore a friend request. I’ve got my FB settings super secure so I’m not even sure if someone can find me if they wanted to!
Please keep up your blog – I don’t get here every day and rarely post, but I always read back to the last post I remember reading.
December 20th, 2009 saat: 10:01 PM
No, I don’t see the list. I’d like to though, I love to get my hands on new reading material!
December 21st, 2009 saat: 2:13 PM
While I don’t comment regularly (or probably enough!) I myself prefer this as to Facebook. Facebook is not as personal and you have to go through SO MUCH EXCESS to get to the new stuff. I make it a point to check my kids’ pages regularly (we had an issue on my son’s page) and it take forever to get through. Hope you continue to blog…it’s a highlight of my days!

I check Facebook every day, but I usually only sit down to read blogs when I have some time to devote. Which isn’t all that often these days. And then by the time I read, I’m catching up on blog entries that are a week or two old and then I don’t feel like my comments are probably even going to get read… but I’m here!! I read!! :)
