Things I am thinking about …

30 June 2010 | Misc

… at 1:19 am, when I really should be sleeping.  A bullet list:

* Why the hell *aren’t* I sleeping?

* It annoys me when I’m watching tv this late at night and two different members of my family have set the DVR to record two different, although both completely asinine, television shows at the same time, which means my only options are to watch one of those two tv shows because I can’t flip to any other channels thanks to the way the DVR is set up, what genius came up with that idea anyway?

* Why do the people in my family watch such asinine shows?

* Why does my husband not listen to me when I tell him I don’t think that one particular asinine show is appropriate for the kids, and lets them watch anyway?

* I liked that “I Shouldn’t Be Alive” episode I just watched, before the dualing DVR episodes ruined it for me.

* But if I’m ever trapped in the Utah desert in the winter, slipping down a 60 foot slope during my training run, crushing my pelvis in the fall, with internal bleeding, I doubt I would show the fortitude that girl/runner did.  In fact, I know I wouldn’t.  I’m not brave enough to face the after-Thanksgiving day sales at the mall …. no way could I face three days and two nights alone in the freezing desert, drinking water out of a puddle and refusing to wet myself for fear of hypothermia.

* Seriously, who can go three days without urinating?

* Wonder if I go back to bed if I can go to sleep now?

* My feet are swollen up like little sausages.  Its very unattractive and not that comfortable, to be honest.

* I’ve heard one thing that can help swollen feet during pregnancy is drinking tons of water …. so I had four glasses with lunch today, and four more glasses at dinner.  My feet are still swollen, and I’ve been to the bathroom nine times in the past two hours.

* Good thing I didn’t drink that much, then try to run in the desert.

* Speaking of asinine, I am really tired, and will probably regret this stupid list in the morning.

Hope you got some sleep finally, and weren’t up for several potty runs in the night. I had a night like that, too. It was about 1:30 when I finally got to bed, then Sadie the puppy (who is my SON’s dog, by the way)woke me up at 6:20 barking in the kennel. Nobody else hears her, or they do but they can ignore it longer. I figure if she’s going to keep me awake by barking, I may as well get up. Maybe we’ll both get lucky and have a nap in our future!

I was awake at 1:30 a.m. also. I kept thinking, if I don’t go to sleep I will be tired today. Maybe you can prop your feet up on the couch today and watch the two asinine shows with the kids. At least it is an excuse to stay home and do nothing!!!

OK, wait. Are you simply reminiscing about water helping during pregnancy, or are you pregnant? I am only wondering…

The other option with the DVR is to cancel the show of the child in least favor at the moment and then express (faked) dismay when said child wonders why the show did not record. “Oh honey, I don’t know what happened. It must have malfunctioned!” ;0)

When I was pregnant, with feet bigger than my head, my ob recommended grapefruit juice, the not from concentrate type, and I swear it helped.

Swollen feet pregnancy what am I missing?
Actually it is keeping the feet elevated, the mom fluid I took in the bigger they got!

    Hey Kristi,
Just wanted to check in…when you get a moment…I don’t care when, would you please tell me more about Blaine? I’m sure you don’t want to blog all the details for every Tom, Dick and Mary but I sure would like to know more. Jim Mac and I were just talking about all of you, particularly how Blaine is doing. Gawd, this cancer is just relentless. I guess I took my cues from you and wouldn’t let myself think it could be as serious as it has turned out to be. Plus I met you as a “Cancer Mommy” not as a “Cancer Spouse” so I often focused on Kendrie’s cancer. On that note, I would love to hear about K’s survivor visit. We have one in July. We had our first last summer and I was not terribly impressed, but we will go again next month…he had to do a hand xray, (Growth test?) a heart check, and bloodwork. Thankfully, he is still doing well.

Well I do not want this comment to be too long so I will close it . Just know you are thought about and missed by a lot of Georgia folks. I am glad you keep blogging and facebooking some so I can read about what’s going on with you.

I think it’s a GREAT list! And night time t.v. basically sucks but if you can’t sleep, what else are you supposed to do?!?!? As an aside, during my last pregnancy, I was up at 3:30 or 4 a.m. watching asinine t.v….Jerry Springer to be exact…desperate, I know, and that’s how we got the name for our last child, Bryson. The guest on the show just wanted to know who Bryson’s father was (I knew who fathered my Bryson by the way) and I loved the name right away. When I woke up hubby to share my excitement of finally coming up with a name, he agreed with it. Not sure if it was because he liked the name or wanted to go back to sleep!

Hope you can find something more promising to watch next time around or that you can sleep!

    Lenaya

If two things are recording at once you should be able to watch anything else that’s already in the DVR (other than the 2 asinine shows I mean). We always seem to have a backlog to catch up on so this is what we do during those moments.

Oh the joys of pregnancy…thanks for bringing it all back for me. And did I mention I was so relieved to hear you allow your kids to watch George Lopez. Jacob picked it up at a friend’s house this year and loves it. I did not realize how racy it can be…but I figure it saves us “the talk”. He will learn it all from that show. And people say t.v. is bad…huh!

  • 13 Kelly Says:

    Wait…you are pregnant?? Congrats!!

  • 14 Laura Says:

If you’re able, would you share more about this pregnancy journey with us? I’m interested!

  • 15 Natalie Says:

Personally, I feel there is no cure for big feet during pregnancy, at least I never found one–I wore slippers and/or sandals for the last two months–but try putting some lemon in your water.

And I’m definitely glad I don’t go running in the Utah desert.

Definately need an update to the big news post from a few days ago! Is the baby a new Escoe or a blessing for someone else? And how is Blaine? I HATE cliffhangers! UPDATE!

Sigh. At least you had a reason to be awake! I was up from 3am to 6am just for grins and giggles and then had to get up at 8am to go to work and worked until 7:00pm. Whine, whine, whine. I hope we both sleep through tonight.
