Worthwhile after all

19 June 2009 | Barley,Brew

I made Oriental Chicken Salad for dinner tonight …. one of my favorites. Unfortunately, its extremely humid here (or maybe only humid in my house!) and the ceramic bowl was wet. As I went to put it in the fridge, it slipped out of my hands, took a good bounce on the kitchen rug, and salad went everywhere.

Dang, I hate when stuff like that happens.

I simply opened the back door and let the dogs in. They had the whole mess cleaned up in about thirty seconds flat. So instead of having to pick up a gazillion oil-covered pieces of salad and nuts and seeds and ramen noodles and pieces of chicken, I just waited until they were done, then got down on my hands and knees with Clorox Wipes to clean off the floor.

If that disgusts you, well, you’ll know not to accept any invitations to eat at my house.

As for me, it balances out the eating of the shoe and all is forgiven.

Fingers crossed that the lettuce and nuts don't cause runs or vomit for the two four legged floor cleaners. At least keep the pooches off of your now sparkling clean kitchen floor. Good luck!!!! How was the take-out???

Ah how nice it is to feel normal!! I do this too, with my pups! It easier than dragging out the vacuum, mop, or broom lol!

I was thinking of renaming my dogs Hoover and Dyson for this very reason!

That's one of the reasons we have dogs! So much easier than cleaning up messes. I hope they didn't get sick! :)

It is when stuff like that happens that I WISH I had dogs!

Man, I miss having a dog around. My kitchen floor used to stay so clean. My next dog will be named Electrolux (Hoover has also been on the list).

When our 14 year old Westie passed away, we planned to wait a while before we got another dog. And then I realized that I was now going to have to BEND OVER and PICK UP FOOD off the kitchen floor. Or SWEEP!

    Yeah..

we got a new dog. lol

ohhhh man.. that sucks big time.. I'm so sorry…
Isn't having live in garbage disposals great sometimes?? We are learning how wonderfull it is since our baby is a BIG TIME spitter.. Never have to clean spit up off of anything! :)
Don't eat at our house either! :)

I do that too…. and um, maybe might let them lick off a plate or two before I stick it into the dishwasher (it sterilizes anyways…)

We don't have dogs, but can see where they might be quite useful! Love the names of Hoover, Dyson and Electrolux!

Sorry for the second post, but another potential dog name is Sweeper!

I totally know what you mean. I have cats and a dog and when I go somewhere else and drop food, I just assume that something down there will eat it. I have to remind myself that not everyone has vacuum's running around underfoot.

Sounds pretty normal (and acceptable) to me, too! But why is my dog walking around the house whistling, "Oklahoma!"?

  • 14 Missy Says:

THIS is why I want a dog. We only have cats, and they're worthless when it comes to cleaning up the floor… I bet a dog would seriously cut back how much mopping I have to do.

  • 15 Anonymous Says:

I just hope that you wont be cleaning up something much messier now! like doggie diarrhea!

I think you're one smart lady for allowing the dogs to help you out! Sorry about the salad though. It sounds yummy to me!

I SO want to get a golden retriever — but your stories of endless chewing have me a bit unnerved!! I will have to be much more careful with all of the stuff I leave on the floor!! I think we'll get one in another few years :)

I just started my blog — been reading yours for years — and excited to slowly get going. You have definitely inspired it, as well as my scrapbooking!!

So instead you had tossed salad? :)

  • 19 Natalie Says:

I know, we need to get a dog because our floors have crumbs all over them. I never realized what sloppy eaters we apparently are until the dog died!

  • 20 Anonymous Says:

I would do the same thing, except I would probably be cleaning up doggie diarreha all night!

Um, we had a little nacho accident a couple of days ago and then a cereal accident this morning. I love dogs…better than any mop I have in the house!
